Under SPD's Eye

According to the Seattle Police Department's CCTV Location Map, the department is installing AXIS Q6100-E/Q6135-LE cameras in locations across Seattle as part of the city's "Technology Assisted Crime Prevention" Pilot.

Using AXIS's Lens Calculator tool, we found the distances at which AXIS Q6135-LE cameras are able to perceive people at four levels of detail:

The map below shows the city's "emphasis areas" (red ), as defined in page 32 and 33 of the CCTV Surveillance Impact Report, overlaid on top of SPD's reported camera locations (purple ) and projected coverage areas (teal ) assuming camera view is not obstructed.

Use the radio buttons above to see how much of the city can be seen by the CCTV cameras under each level of detail.

These cameras are placed in some of the most traveled areas of the city. Whether you are driving to work, marching in a protest at Westlake, switching buses downtown, meeting a friend for drinks in Belltown, accessing healthcare, or just walking down the street, just remember: SPD will be watching.
