Under SPD's Eye

According to the Seattle Police Department's CCTV Location Map, the department is installing AXIS Q6100-E/Q6135-LE cameras in locations across Seattle as part of the city's "Technology Assisted Crime Prevention" Pilot.

Using AXIS's Lens Calculator tool, we found the distances at which AXIS Q6135-LE cameras are able to perceive people at four levels of detail:

• Identification (183.3m): It is possible to identify an individual. (Most detailed)
• Recognition (366.6m): It is possible for a viewer to determine whether or not an individual shown is the same as someone they have seen before.
• Observation (727.5m): It is possible to determine how many people are present and to see characteristic details of individuals, such as distinctive clothing.
• Detection (1833.4m): It is possible to determine whether or not any individual is present. (Least detailed)

The map below shows the city's "emphasis areas" (red ), as defined in page 32 and 33 of the CCTV Surveillance Impact Report, overlaid on top of SPD's reported camera locations (purple ) and projected coverage areas (teal ) assuming camera view is not obstructed.
